Immunocal / HMS 90 Overview

Immunocal bioactive whey protein (which is also called HMS90 in Canada) is a nutritional supplement manufactured by Immunotec Research LTD of Canada. Immunocal / HMS90 bioactive whey protein is a highly concentrated, highly bio-available milk serum isolate which is rich in un-denatured whey proteins (90% protein by weight), and is lactose-free and fat-free. It can be classified as both a whey protein concentrate and isolate as it is both fat free and lactose-free.

Each box of Immunocal/HMS90 is produced from 500 liters (125 gallons) of organic milk from a select closed herd of cattle which graze on natural selenium-rich grasses in the state of Idaho. The cows are not treated with hormones or antibiotics. The organic milk is shipped to a processing plant in the United States where Immunocal/HMS90 is produced without the use of high-heat pasteurization, which can damage the fragile proteins which normalize immune function and increase the body's production of its most critical antioxidant, glutathione. Immunocal is clinically proven to increase glutathione levels, normalize immune function, and is currently being studied in the treatment of AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, hepatitis B and C, cancer, cancer chemotherapy, and numerous autoimmune diseases.

Immunocal /HMS90 bioactive whey protein is not a prescription drug, but a natural and safe nutritional supplement produced from lactose-free whey. Immunocal has the same risks and side-effect profile as mothers' breast milk.

The product is a patented (8 Method of Use Patents, including 5 U.S. Patents) dietary supplement that is loaded with glutathione precursors that help increase glutathione production within healthy cells. Interestingly, the product paradoxically decreases glutathione levels within cancerous cells, weakening them so that they can be more easily destroyed by the body's immune system or by conventional medical interventions such as chemotherapy. The manufacturer of Immunocal / HMS90 bioactive whey protein reports that it took $10 million and 18 years of research to validate the product.

There are several other whey proteins being marketed as immune boosters, but these products universally lack clinical proof of their efficacy, and the manufacturers usually cite the clinical studies on Immunocal as proof of their benefit, a scientifically invalid practice. Immunocal ioactive whey protein shares many of the same immune promoting and enhancing properties of Mother's milk.

It has been clinically proven to increase serum and tissue glutathione levels, and its efficacy is validated by extensive research, including over 340 published scientific studies and review articles which appear in the medical literature and are available for you to examine through the following MEDLINE (National Library of medicine) link: Immunocal / HMS90 increases glutathione which is our cells' own natural antioxidant and most potent detoxifier. It has been demonstrated to enhance both healthy and deficient immune systems, and has been validated as an effective nutritional supplement by the medical community. Furthermore, Immunocal is the only non-prescription dietary supplement of it's kind to appear in the year 2000 through 2007 Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) for Prescription Drugs, although it is available without prescription! It has it's own NDC (National Drug Control) number, and is reimbursable under Medicaid, Medicare, and by private insurance in many states.

"About Natural Health Product Regulation in Canada"

"All natural health products require a product licence before they can be sold in Canada. Obtaining a licence will require submitting detailed information on the product to Health Canada, including: medicinal ingredients, source, potency, non-medicinal ingredients and recommended use.

Once a product has been assessed and granted market authorization by Health Canada, the product label will bear an eight digit product licence number preceded by the distinct letters NPN, or, in the case of a homeopathic medicine, by the letters DIN-HM. This number on the label will inform consumers that the product has been reviewed and approved by Health Canada for safety and efficacy."

"The consumer will benefit from having more information available to make informed decisions, and by having regulatory approvals that increase their confidence in the safety and efficacy of NHPs, possibly resulting in an increase in consumer self-medication, and a possible decrease in medical problems and associated costs.

Practitioners will benefit from the added confidence in the safety and efficacy of NHPs, and will be better able to make product recommendations to their patients due to the increased information on product labels. Consumer confidence will also be enhanced by government review of products in a pre-market system, which assures them that what is on the label is what is in the bottle, and that health claims are supported by appropriate standards of evidence."
"Canadian manufacturers and distributors of NHPs want to put more, rather than less, information on labels, as long as the information is deemed reasonable by the industry."
"In summary, from an overall perspective, it is expected that there will be significant benefit to consumers from the new regulatory framework.

Many studies have indicated that there are societal net benefits from informed and effective self-care, including maintenance of good health. By allowing more information on labels regarding health claims associated with NHPs, and by establishing a regulatory framework that increases consumer confidence in NHPs, the new regulatory regime may lower the cost of maintaining one's health or increase the healthiness of consumers.
Complete labelling also provides the consumer with full disclosure of NMIs and any warnings or contra-indications, thereby increasing consumers' knowledge and awareness regarding sensitivities, allergens, and interactions.

As a direct result, negative reactions to certain substances could be reduced, and the corresponding need for medical attention decreased. As well, as indicated earlier, the consumer benefits from having more information available to make informed decisions, and regulatory approvals that increase their confidence in the safety and efficacy of NHPs. Increased consumer confidence will lead to stability or an increase in sales of these products from an industry perspective. Industry has indicated that while it recognizes there will be incremental costs associated with regulation specific to NHPs, it also values increased consumer confidence in these products, and overall benefits to consumers regarding informed choice.

Health Canada has considered the benefits and costs associated with the introduction of these Regulations from the perspective of all stakeholders including industry and consumers, and concluded that the benefits outweigh the costs of adopting this regulatory framework."
